Based in the Chicago area, Awana is the only organization with fully integrated evangelism and discipleship programs for ages 2 to 18 that actively involve parents, church leaders and mentors. Each week, more than a million children and youth, 250,000 volunteers and 170-plus field staff take part in Awana in over 18,000 churches in the U.S. and internationally.
At NC3 we have 3 active Awana groups that meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30 - 8 pm during the school year:
- Cubbies (preschool): celebrates preschoolers’ spiritual potential by helping them develop respect for God, His Son and His Word.
- Sparks (K-2): teaches children about the people and events of the Bible. This builds a foundation of wisdom for knowing Jesus.
- Truth & Training (third to sixth grade): answers kids’ key questions about God and the Bible, guiding them to grow in His grace.
The founders of Awana derived the Awana name from the first letters of "Approved workmen are not ashamed" as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15 of the Bible.

Vacation Bible School
June 15-18, 2020 - Cancelled
May 1, 2020 - After much consideration and prayer, the New Covenant Community Church Elders and VBS directors have decided to cancel our VBS for summer 2020, scheduled for June 15-18. This was not an easy decision by any means, and it comes with very heavy hearts. This decision is carefully based on information from the CDC, the White House, and the Governor’s plans to “reopen” the state and country. We feel that it is in everyone’s best interest of health and safety to push our plans for the 2020 VBS to next summer, June 2021.
While this is not the outcome we all wanted, we want to encourage everyone by letting you know that we are planning several weekend VBS retreats in the future, when the all clear is given for group gatherings. Please be in prayer as we seek best practices to minister to the children through these weekend events. We look forward to making the 2021 VBS the BEST!!
